The Health Benefits of Green Tea

Green tea has been associated with several health benefits for as far back as documented history will take us, especially in the East where countries such as Japan and China still consider it a dietary staple. It is chocked full of antioxidants that can help prevent all sorts of cancer as well as heart disease.

And while most of the studies for this have been done in the East (where the results are a bit undecided because eastern cultures consume more lean protein and already drink a significant amount of the tea) there is no denying that it definitely has the antioxidants that your body could use to keep itself healthy.

And any green tea drinker can tell you that it can really improve your mood and keep you energized and productive throughout your day.

To reap the optimum amount of benefits from green tea you should bring your water to a boil and pour over the tea. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes before drinking. After doing that consider drinking it again two or three more times that day. You get more out of green tea by consuming a lot of it.

It’s not just good for helping prevent disease either. Green tea is an excellent beverage to add to your weight-loss regimen. It has been known to boost your metabolism and it has no calories. Something with no calories that burns calories?

Yes.

Beverages like juice can sound appealing while you’re trying to shed pounds, but when it comes down to it you really don’t want to drink your calories when you don’t have to. Tea is a great way to drink something other than water and keep your calories in your food where they belong.

And if all that doesn’t have you wanting to run to the store for a box of the stuff, it can also keep you feeling energized and improve your mood all around. Caffeinated green tea is a great way to start off your day, especially if you are trying to avoid coffee.

The caffeine is enough to wake you up, but isn’t enough to give you the jittery feeling that coffee sometimes does. And because it boosts your metabolism it helps you start burning calories right at the beginning of the day. That paired with a morning workout and a healthy breakfast can do wonders for your body and mind. Your waistline will shrink and you’ll feel better than ever.

There have been plenty of studies to try to get definitive proof about all of green tea’s benefits for the human body. Most of them, however, have been conducted in eastern countries where green tea is already a common drink, which leaves the research wanting.

That’s not to say that the effects are not real, especially when there are tea drinkers from thousands of years back that would praise all of its delicious and healthy goodness.
