We all have those days that seem to go on and on –the ones that are filled with stress, tons of work, rushing around, and trying to keep a smile on all the while. Those kinds of days are a drain on our system and leave us feeling dead. At the end of them nothing sounds better than falling over into bed and sleeping for a month. Picking yourself up and feeling relaxed afterwards is hard, because feeling dead and being relaxed are not the same thing.

There are a couple of things you can do after one of these long days that can help you feel a whole lot better. One of the easiest ways is to fill yourself up with water. Most people don’t get nearly enough water through the course of the day and simply rehydrating your body can do wonders. And if you want your drink to be even more refreshing, add some lemon juice to it, or even a few slices of cucumber.

Once you’ve rejuvenated your body with some water, you should really consider cooking yourself a healthy, homemade meal. Something with lots of fresh veggies is always a good idea. Try to avoid salts, fatty foods, and sugar. All these things will make you feel heavy and slow you down, and since you are supposed to be detoxing, you definitely don’t want that. Try a salad with a vinaigrette dressing, vegetables roasted in olive oil, a source of lean protein, and (another) glass of water. And if you’re a dessert kind of person, instead of reaching for something like cookies or cake afterwards, have some fruit. It will cleanse your palette and curb any sweets cravings you may have. What we eat effects how we feel so much and if you want to feel relaxed after a long day at work, you don’t want to eat anything that can cause your insides to feel weird in any way.

If after all that you’re still feeling tense and stressed out, try a warm bath. But not just any bath –having a good bath salt is really a must. There are all sorts of them for sale on the market, but you are better off with an all-natural selection, something with natural flowers, essential oils, and/or raw oats which are fantastic for your skin. Once you’ve got your bath prepared, let yourself soak for a good 20 minutes, perhaps with a good book and some candles if you’re so inclined. Let go of the worries from the day and let yourself just be.

And when you finally lay down for a good night’s sleep, bring a warm cup of chamomile tea with you. Chamomile is a great for helping you fall asleep (great for anyone prone to laying awake worrying) and stay asleep. Usually a night of rest on a cup of chamomile is relaxing and deep, exactly what you need to recharge your inner-batteries after a long day.

Keeping our bodies clean and happy is imperative for getting through the tough stuff life can throw at us. Eating well, drinking water, and taking the time to relax and let go of the stress is important for all of us.

Yoga has become incredibly popular among the ladies in the U.S., and I’ve found that it’s quite a good way to work out, get some hardcore stretching in, and push my body to the max. I’ve almost completely eliminated my back pain thanks to Yoga, so I’m a huge proponent of the amazing form of exercise.

And now, I’ve discovered that it helps to get rid of toxins! Can it get any better?

Hot Yoga and Sweating

Most people believe that sweating is the best way to get rid of toxins, as the toxins that are absorbed through your skin can be flushed out when you perspire.

Bikram Yoga – also known as hot Yoga – has become hugely popular, as it involves doing the poses and forms in a room with the heater cranked way up. The result is a whole lot of sweating, and those that do this hot yoga feel like they’ve detoxed their bodies nicely.

Ashtanga yoga – or power yoga – is also believed to be very effective. It involves a lot of moving around, and it is excellent for building strength and power. It causes you to sweat a lot, and it is another one that has become popular for health and detoxing alike.

Unfortunately, sweating is just one way to detox, and it’s not the most effective. Sweating only eliminates about 1% of the toxins in your body, as most of the toxins are absorbed into your liver via your digestive system. The majority of the toxins in your body come via the food you eat, and sweating will usually only eliminate the toxins that have been absorbed via your skin – a much smaller percentage than you might think.

So How Does Yoga Help?

The way Yoga helps to detox your body is by:

  • Improving your circulation
  • Regulating your digestion
  • Stimulating your lymphatic system

The twisting, turning, stretching, and compressing of Yoga poses helps to stimulate your body. Some poses will compress your liver, effectively squeezing out the toxins and forcing the organ to send it on to the waste disposal system. Other poses will stimulate your lymph nodes, which is where toxins are often stored on their way to the liver. Twisting poses will help to stimulate your blood circulation, which will keep all of your organs healthy and working properly.

Two of the best poses to promote the healthy detoxification of your body are:

Wide Legged Forward Fold

This is an inverted pose will help your lymphatic system to drain of all toxins, and will stimulate your upper body circulation in order to speed up the elimination of the toxins.

Seated Twist

This twisting pose will compress the organs in your midsection, and will help your digestive system work better, get your kidneys processing more effectively, and flush the liver of toxins.

These simple Yoga poses are just two of the hundreds of effective poses that will help to detox your body, and you’ll find that doing Yoga is one of the best ways to get rid of those pesky toxins once and for all!

We all want to live a long and happy life, and I’ve found that detoxing helps me to feel much better about myself.

Here are my 10 best ways to Detoxify Your Body Naturally:

  1. Exercise –For me, exercise is the cure to just about everything! Not only does exercising helps me to feel better, but I know that it boosts circulation, promotes healthy elimination of wastes, and helps me to sweat a lot!If I need to get rid of some toxins, I’ll go for a run or head to my martial arts training session!
  2. Stock Up on Antioxidants – Antioxidants are excellent at eliminating toxins, and they also help to counteract their effects. My favorite source of antioxidants is strawberries and blueberries, but citrus fruits, carrots, and tomatoes are all good when it comes to antioxidants.

Lifehack: Turmeric is one of the best detoxifiers around, as it improves the health of your liver – the organ responsible for getting rid of toxins.

  1. Juice it Up – Raw veggie and fruit juice may not be my favorite, but they certainly work. All the fiber soaks up the toxins, and the liquid helps to send it out the waste disposal exit easily.
  2. Use a Loofah –  I don’t use a loofah as much as I should, but my skin always feels great when I do.Scrubbing your skin helps to stimulate it to eliminate dead skin cells, and scrubbing in an upward motion towards your heart can actually help your lymph system to eliminate wastes. [1]
  3. Drink Tea – Milk thistle is a powerful herbal remedy for liver detoxification [2], and you can have a cup of the tea to flush out your body.Dandelion tea also makes for a great detoxifier, but green tea is my favorite detox tea to drink!
  4. Eat Fermented Foods – Fermented foods are excellent at detoxing your body.  They produce healthy bacteria, which keeps your intestines working properly.Eat more yogurt, kimchi, and probiotics, and make sure to drink a bit of wine (my personal favorite).

Did You Know: Ginger is a great herb for detoxing your body. Toxins can stop your body from producing enough digestive enzymes, but ginger will help your digestive system to get back on track

  1. Eat Green – The more green foods you can add to your diet, the better you’ll feel! Not only do green foods contain lots of fiber to soak up the toxins, but they also contain vitamins and minerals to keep your body working well.
  2. Get Nutty – Nuts are loaded with fiber and healthy fats, and they’ll help to detox your body effectively. They’re also very filling, making them perfect for a low fat diet.
  3. Cut Dairy – Lactose intolerance isn’t a problem I have, but I know many people are sensitive to it.I’ve cut full-fat milk and yogurt out of my diet, and I feel great. If you want to give your digestive system a break, try to cut dairy.
